Course objectives:
This workshop focuses on the scientific research article and on improving writing skills to produce clear, concise, and well-structured manuscripts with better chances of publication and citation. Topics include scientific writing, the writing process, research article structure, organization, and writing tools.

Duration:
6 Classes of 2.5 hours: Total 15 hours online + homework.

ADVANCED GRAMMAR STRATEGIES FOR WRITING (VIRTUAL)

Course objectives:
This course focuses on identifying and revising grammar patterns, sentence structures, and the use of tenses in academic writing. This course is ideal for writers who want to apply grammar rules directly to their work, as well as students who have completed Essential Grammar Tools for Writing and want to further practice their writing and grammar skills. Students will complete activities (oral and written) based on the topics presented and will engage in peer review activities related to their own writing.

Duration:
12 hours of virtual class and 3 hours of online work Total: 15 hours

WORKSHOP: PREPARING TO WRITE A DISSERTATION

Course objectives:
This workshop focuses on the decisions that shape a dissertation before writing begins. We will explore key considerations for the topic proposal and logistical foundations (e.g., literature availability, data collection, methodology, and more). We will also review the dissertation types (traditional vs. 3-article) and how to manage the writing challenges of each section. By the end of the session, participants will have a clear understanding about how to approach and prepare for the dissertation process. The workshop will include time for Q&A.

CURRENT ISSUES IN CONVERSATION

ONLINE

Course objectives:
This course offers a welcoming space for students to develop their English speaking skills through small- and large-group discussions of contemporary issues across disciplines. Classes will build sequentially, exploring thematic vocabulary and language for expressing and supporting opinions and responding to different perspectives. Students will receive materials to prepare for discussions, with key language and concepts also introduced and practiced in class. Instructor feedback will target pronunciation, grammar, and clarity.

Duration:
1.5 hours x 2 times per week, Virtual via Zoom. 12 hours total; 8 sessions.

About teacher:
Marta Grecchi is an English instructor with an MA in ESL from the University of Arizona and a BA in International Development from McGill University, Canada. She has taught languages for more than a decade in diverse contexts, including the University of Arizona, Pima Community College, the Central University of Venezuela, and even on a cruise ship. In addition to English, she speaks Italian and Spanish fluently, and some French. Her objective is to create a supportive but challenging learning environment where students can build the English they need to achieve personal and professional goals.
